Project: Lidos Of England: Lost & Found

This project won a silver award in the Campaign section at the 2015 Sony World Photography Awards in London and went to exhibition at Somerset House in London.

Lidos of England: Lost & Found is a series of landscapes of lidos which were mostly built in their heyday years in the 1930s, though the earliest one, Kings Meadow baths in Reading was from the Edwardian era. They are of course in varying states of condition, while some have disappeared altogether and others have benefitted from renewed interest and investment.

The project perhaps represents the way Britain has changed and moved on from the pre-war heyday when these pools were built. People started taking more holidays abroad from around the 1960s which had an adverse affect on these facilities and from which they have never really properly recovered. Some have decayed over time and have disappeared completely, while a lucky few have been rescued with new investment and interest in the modern age.
